Evaluation

Investigation: At this stage i think that all of use, my group members and I did a good job. At first we devided the work equally, each of us had the same amount of work. And we managed to finish on time all the work. By working in a group i realized that it is alot easier, the work gets done faster and as a team we achieve more and faster. Our weaknesses were: soemtimes we argued over silly things which made us waste some time and sometimes all of us got distracted and did not manage to finish our work. My job was to do the history of a boat, at the beginning I didn't know what to write because i hadn't fully understood the question, but when i asked Mr. Wafula I understood it. The first thing i did was to look for a good website, it was a bit hard but at the end i Found, what i did good was not copypasting the same words as the website but changing it itno my own words. At the end of this stage we managed to achieve a 6, and i am happy to say that as a team we did a good job.

Design: This stage was a bit hard because none of us knew how to use google sketchup. So we decide to ask Hamdan for some help and he gave us some advice that were usefull to all of us. I did design one which at the end was the one we chose for our final design. What we did good was writing a good explanation for each of the design maybe next time we should try harder on google sketch up and make our boat a bit hard.

Plan: In this stage we didn't do very well, because we didn't work as a proper team, infact it affected all of us. We didnt submitted it on time and we didn't write well detailed explanation. And i realized that when one member of the time is not working properly also the rest of the people get affected. Next time we should give more detailed explanation in order to achieve a higher grade.

Create: This stage wasn't as hard as i thought it will be. The first thing we did was drawing the boat on the acrylic, the hard part was cutting the pieces out, which took us alot of time and almost all of got cut with the copying saw. Later on Mr wafula helped us cutting the major pices out with a machine and this gave us more time to do the rest of the job better. After cutting we had to bend it, this took us alot of time and in the end we realized that some of our measurment were wrong and some part of the boat had some big gaps, but thanks to the silicon we managed to cove those gaps and our boat actually came out nicely. When testing it we realized that a v hull makes the boat go faster the only disadvantage is that when the boat goes to fast it can cap size, but the boat skimed on the water and goes very fast and it one of the fastest. Next time what we should do is make sure that all our mesuerment are accurate, but at the end we did a good job.

Attitudes in technology: As a group i have to say that we worked well together, even though some times we fought over silly things we managed to work propelrly with nos stop and in most of our stages we achieved good grade. In time we always worked consitently without stopping and we were always punctual and all our stages were submitted on time. At the end of this project i can say that i am happy with what i did and i am happy with the choice of my group.

My hull choice...

There are different types of hulls:

  • Flat Bottom Design

  • Displacement Planning hull

  • V Hull

  • Tri-Hull

  • Pontoon Hull

For my boat i decided to use a V-hull because it helps have a safer ride, and a much more comfortable ride. The reason for this is that because of the sharp shape of the hull, it is able to penetrate the ocean surface. Although there is one problem with this boat, it needs more power, to be able to achieve the same speed as a runabout. The V hull is also the most common one in the market especially for speed boates. This hull allows the vessel to skim on the water, it flots throught the water allowing it to go faster, because it is less water resistent therefore more air will go thruogh causing it to be faster. The only disadvantage of it is that it needs alot power. What mostly influnced my choice was the shape of the hull, at the beginning i was very curious on how that shape could float on the water, at first i thought it will sink, and i would have never thougth it go that fast but at the end of my project i realized that a v hull allows the boat to float faster on the water and it doesn't sink at all.

Different Types of Marine Vessels

During this term I have studied different types of Marine Vessels, but before starting, what is a Marine Vessel? Well a marine vessel is a watercraft vehicle that is designed to float and move through water or on water.

There are different types of marine vessels:

Catamarans: this kind of vessel is a multihulled vessels provided with two hulled, kept at the edge of the boat and joined by some structure, they can be sailed or used with an engine power.

Canoes/ Kayaks: this vessel is a small and narrow boat, it is usually formed by a v hull and f=does not require the use of a motor because it is usually human powered and it is propelled by the use of paddles.

Hydrofoil: this marine vessel is not very common, it is wing structure build on struts below the hull of the boat, which lifts the boat partially out of the water when moving in order to reduce the drag.

Jet Skies: Are a smaller version of a marine vessel, it formed by a very sharp v hull and it propelled by an engine power, it usually goes very fast because it is less water resistent so more air passes through it allowwing it to go faster also thanks to the hull that makes it skims on the water.
